This is one of my favorite songs in the show (along with, of course, "Die, Vampire, Die!"). It makes me cry. Probably because I actually listened to Andrea McCardle on the hi-fi in the den. But it was vinyl, not 8-track, thank you very much.
I was too far removed from Broadway all the way out in West Texas so I listened to Aileen Quinn on the hi fi that Santa Clause brought me in 1978 - of course, I didn't get the Annie soundtrack album until a few years later. It's still in "my room" back home although the hi fi has gone out.
